The Insanity That Was Flugtag

Last Saturday was Redbull Flugtag in Nashville. Flugtag is German for "Flying Day" and as near as I can gather is pronounced flewg-tawg. This was pure insanity if I ever saw it. Teams built flying machines (well most of them didn't actually fly very well), which they pushed off a boat/podium/? at which point they flew/plummeted three stories into the Cumberland River below. And the crowd was just crazy. I've been to a few different concerts at the riverfront, and I've never seen so many people there -- some accounts estimate attendance of 80,000! People were packed in like sardines and passing out left and right from the heat.
I don't claim that these are great pictures, but I couldn't resist posting on this craziness.

Before the event started, the Red Bull skydivers made an appearance.

No, I didn't forget to rotate this picture.

Charleston, SC

This was my first trip to Charleston, SC, and what a beautiful city it was! The food was great, the people were friendly, and the weather was beautiful (albeit a little warm). What more could you ask for?

Downtown Nashville

So, I've been itching to post some pictures from my recent trip to Charleston, SC. But I'm having major technical difficulties getting them up. In the meantime, I've added some pictures of the Nashville skyline that I took a few weeks ago. Most of these were taken from the LP Field side of the river.

Pool Fun

Fun in the sun isn't quite so much fun when there isn't any sun. Of course when it was time to hit the pool, the sun disappeared and the temperature dropped. But it didn't seem to discourage the kids!

Belshe Reunion -- Part 3: The Reunion

The reunion weekend was concluded with the reunion itself, held at the VFW Hall in Eldon. There was a wonderful turnout this year. Lunch consisted of good, down-home, country cookin' -- fried chicken, ham, green beans -- the works. In addition to the usual festivities, 20-year attendance awards and thank you awards were presented, the new version of the family cookbook was introduced, and a slide show of old family and reunion photos was shown.

What a cutie!

Belshe Reunion -- Part 2: Main Street Music Hall

On Saturday night of "Belshe Reunion Weekend," the family traditionally meets for dinner and an Opry. This year we went to the Main Street Music Hall. I've seen several of these shows over the years, but this year I got to see it with fresh eyes as I watched it with my two little cousins. It was so wonderful to watch their expressions of awe and excitement as the ladies came out in their beautiful, sparkly dresses.
